Would the polish be a breed that you would recommend for an 8 year old boy to show for 4H?

I've seen several junior entries with polish, they seem pretty popular with the kids. Just be sure to handle them a lot so they aren't crazy-flighty!

I don't know much about 4h shows, but they are a popular breed because of their showy topknots .Everyone that sees the polish chickens want to buy them. They are a little smaller than the big brown egg layer hens, but lay a pretty good sized white egg. My rooster is silver laced, hens are buff laced and splash.

OK, I'm new to the breeding aspect of chickens, so pardon the stupid question:
What will the chicks be colored? Will they be allowed to enter if they're from two different colored parents?

Not a stupid question, color inheritance in chickens is complex. I am not positive what colors i will get since this is a new rooster, and i am just hatching eggs from this breeding. One looks white so far and one looks laced. I don't know what the 4h rules are concerning colors. Anyone know?

If it were me I'd just take the buckeyes so I wouldn't have to worry about it

I would assume you could enter one that is 'mixed color' as AOV...you could in a regular show.
