Yet another blazing hot day in TN. Went to town , shipped eggs, bought more building materials. Got concrete to make a speed bump type thing in front of my garage so it doesn't flood every time it rains. I am not sure why, but I am always the one that mixes the concrete. Guess it might be because every time DH uses a shovel, it jars loose more kidney stones. I really need to build more coops or else convert more goat sheds into chicken coops. My chickens are outgrowing their tractors.
Those silly teenage birds I have in the grow out pen needed to be picked up and put in the coop again tonight.
I do have a double layer of wire, but that's no guarantee that a coon can't reach in an grab one. I have not lost any to predators since the black vulture incident and I would like to keep it that way.
Packing more eggs to ship tomorrow , the lady at the PO loves to see me coming.
Oh gosh, I had quite a time trying to feed the goats today. I put them in a fenced area to feed them. They get their pellets in a trough. So they are busy eating. I load up the mule with feed. I drive to the barn to get a bale of hay. I am up in the hay loft, look out at the Mule, and there isLena in the front seat , eating layer pellets.
. So I take her and put her in another pasture , but it will not be long before she is out again. I load the hay and hurry off to feed the rest of the animals. It is 7 pm when I am out there, and the heat index says 100 degrees!
The stupid red birds are in the Polish pen again, and I am really sick of this every day. I don't know where they are getting in, but they need to stop. I open the coop door and shoo them out.
Only had two chicks hatch today, a lavender orpington and a polish, both adorable. The guy still has not called about the chicks he supposedly wanted, guess I need to post on Craigslist. I am keeping all the lavs so I can build up a flock, I only have a pair right now. Poor hen
