the geese are beating the heat.

Ok ,i think i got it on the pics. But i'm not sure how, so please don't ask:lol:. I'm going to bed while i'm ahead.

Yet another blazing hot day in TN. Went to town , shipped eggs, bought more building materials. Got concrete to make a speed bump type thing in front of my garage so it doesn't flood every time it rains. I am not sure why, but I am always the one that mixes the concrete. Guess it might be because every time DH uses a shovel, it jars loose more kidney stones. I really need to build more coops or else convert more goat sheds into chicken coops. My chickens are outgrowing their tractors.
Those silly teenage birds I have in the grow out pen needed to be picked up and put in the coop again tonight.

I do have a double layer of wire, but that's no guarantee that a coon can't reach in an grab one. I have not lost any to predators since the black vulture incident and I would like to keep it that way.
Packing more eggs to ship tomorrow , the lady at the PO loves to see me coming.
Oh gosh, I had quite a time trying to feed the goats today. I put them in a fenced area to feed them. They get their pellets in a trough. So they are busy eating. I load up the mule with feed. I drive to the barn to get a bale of hay. I am up in the hay loft, look out at the Mule, and there isLena in the front seat , eating layer pellets.

. So I take her and put her in another pasture , but it will not be long before she is out again. I load the hay and hurry off to feed the rest of the animals. It is 7 pm when I am out there, and the heat index says 100 degrees!
The stupid red birds are in the Polish pen again, and I am really sick of this every day. I don't know where they are getting in, but they need to stop. I open the coop door and shoo them out.
Only had two chicks hatch today, a lavender orpington and a polish, both adorable. The guy still has not called about the chicks he supposedly wanted, guess I need to post on Craigslist. I am keeping all the lavs so I can build up a flock, I only have a pair right now. Poor hen:p

Today I loaded up the Silverado with my two problem goats and went to Savannah for the auction
Prices were pitiful. Some goats sold as cheap as $15! I got $70 For devil goat and only $60 for Louise. So I lost a lot on that deal, but my fences will need less maintenance. I did go out and put more fence posts in the worst places, to keep them from getting stomped again. I took 12 baby chicks along and only got $7.50 for them, but the guy said he may want more so I may do ok in the long run.
I have some one who wants 20 chicks so I am dropping them off tomorrow in Jackson since I have to go anyway. Had an egg buyer show up and bought 3 dozen eggs, so that's always good.
What have you guys been up to, besides trying to stay cool?

The heat sucks. After the incubator malfunction yesterday (the thermostat died and it was 115 degrees when I found it) I lost my 3 Silkie hens from my quad (pet quality). Today 2 cows calved with bulls. That makes 14 of the last 18 bulls. Not good in a dairy herd. On the bright side, my parents came to visit today from Wisconsin. They are staying for a few days.

I also had a guinea and GLW hatch after the incubator malfunction. Stay cool

New fence--2000 dollars--a ton of goat feed 3500 dollars--getting rid of devil goats---price less--I've seen baby chicks go for 2 bucks a dozen around here this summer.

My wife Dana got sick--like a cold-- yesterday on your anniversary we made it to Springfield mo ,but she got so sick we had to beat it back. Shes better today but has to go to work tomorrow. It seems like ever time she takes some time off she gets sick.We did see to wooden spools next to a dumpster and grabbed them, i already got one painted red, no more bending over to fill those 1 gallon waters.
