I would say that $25 would be for adult layers. I am getting more chicken calls again. Sold some chicks today! I also moved the young birds from the grow pen with a light to one without since they don't need it. Moved the Sussex outside to a different coop. Then I moved the biggest chicks from the insulated room to the grow out pen with a light. I accomplished that around midnight:-D The baby goats had not figured out nursing. Nina has huge teats , and they are hanging low. So I went and milked her, then filled a bottle and let them sample it. The little girl took right to it. The first buckling just screamed and fought , and the second one took some. Thank goodness Nina is good about being milked. Then after a while I showed the babies where to look. I am all crunched down in the pen with the goats, and the little doe comes over and butts me in the right part to let down milk! Lucky she is small:-D I shovelled out three wagon loads of litter from around the barn door so I could get it latched shut . Then I put a retaining board there . It is quite sloped inside there , it is an area that was open on three sides until we closed it in. Anyway, the garden has more fertilizer now.

Starting new kids/lambs is time consuming. Getting them going well is a big effort and it's around the clock. Worth the effort though; I love to watch the little one romp around. I just came in to check what's going on. Back to me chores.

So today I tried to post an auction on here and it didn't work. Then I tried to report it, and THAT didn't work. So I went to E bay and posted three auctions as Hot2Potchick. I just have to sell eggs, need to buy more feed. My last couple of auctions on here didn't sell. Seems like more people are looking at archives than auctions! What is up with that?
I started building a run for the latest coop today but didn't get much done. I had to go to town again and ship eggs, had lunch at Jacks. The goat kids seem to be doing OK, I need to go check them again in a little while. Probably Nina will need milking again, her udder is huge. It was sunny and fairly warm again today, supposed to have rain tomorrow. Hope they are wrong about that.

I don't like what they did to the auction site . Watching the bids going up is what made it fun and the prices go up.My friend John gave me 2 huge buff cochin roosters. They are 8 mos old and are so heavy they pulled my arm loading them. I found some hens for them today for 20 each, they are big but some of them have pointey tails. The roos are short backed and round as balls. He has had the same blood lines for 45 years.

Yeah, but the old site was getting ready to crash due to overload, so they had to do something. Cochins, well there are some broodies for ya coach!

Sounds like some beautiful cochins, Coach. THe boys must be HUGE.

I loved the old auction method. Once I figured how to play, I spent a lot of time looking at the auctions. A lot. I mean really a lot. I bought hatching eggs ( marans) and a BO rooster. I can't figure out how to "play" now. I don't want to bother a seller by PMing just to figure out how to work the system. Though I bet if I see something I just have to have, then I will PM !

My boys helped me clean out the grow out pen today which houses a mix of chickens and ducks and a turkey hen. THe turkey hen jumped out to run around while my oldest was on guard as the older turkeys usually pick on her. Well, the toms were not picking on her today. They went into display mode. Trying to hustle this young impressionable girl! She went to live with the turkeys in their coop.

I always feel bad when I split up a group that were raised together. THey never forget their friends.

Hi, Arielle. Yes the cochin roos are huge and they don't stop growing until they are 11/2 years old. I had bourbon red turkeys years ago and i liked them but they where a little mean with my chickens and they liked to chase my niece who was 12 at the time. That part was kind of funny. Today my wife said that we are going to be short on money for a week . So i said that i can fix that. My girl and i loaded up a trailer load of super cheap furniture and stuff that i bought here and there for yard sales this summer and took it to a auction.Almost all of it brought twice what i gave for it. I don;t know why but i always make money on junk.Maybe because i buy it cheap i can make i little and it's still cheap. My dom eggs got here today in good shape,so i set them with 5 dozen of my eggs tonight,Let the hatching begin.

Great news! I have a lead on a lady who is selling most of her flock, all under a year old! And it includes two SLW roosters! Plus a few Light Brahmas, Dominiques, Silkies, Japs, Cuckoo Marans.... guess what? I need more coops! Going to look at them tomorrow, weeeee! Today I went to the eye doctor, and ordered two pairs of glasses. Eye check, $69.99, Glasses, 2 pair for $100. plus $50. for tinting. Being able to see again, priceless! Of course, it takes 7-10 days, rats!
Today I bought bread at the bakery, a whole barrel. Plus I got a load of feed and the B vitamins to inject Nina. I gave her 5 ccs and it brought her appetite right back! I need to go give the little guy a bottle soon. I couldn't feed on time tonight because it was raining, and I ended up feeding the goats indoors. I hate that because i need more trough space in there and they push and shove. I did find another length of PVC I can use back there, so hopefully tomorrow I will get that installed. It is pretty cool out there tonight, gald I have the wood stove going. It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so I hope to finish the run on the latest coop.
I went to Jackson with out shipping eggs, that was weird. But I hate shipping on Thursdays. I got a roll of fencing on sale for $27.00 today, a bit different that what I generally get but it should work. No cheap paint, they were sold out. I bought fixings to make lasagna from scratch for Saturday night when DH gets back from his trip. Maybe I should buy a bottle of wine to go with it.

You are resourceful!! I never buy new anymore--it's only going to get banged up anyway, so I might as well start that way. I have kids and dogs , oh and cats, they are more destructive than the dogs!

1 1/2 yr to mature--heritage lines are so much bigger than the hatchery lines. I wish the hatcheries would list the body weights of their chickens accurately--I'm not sure they do. HOw much would an adult cochin wiegh--a rooster?
