Yea!!! the stress test was good.My quest to fill the antique booth is taking all of our time. We went to a sale Monday and tuseday night and are getting good things at mostly good prices.I hardly have time the feed the animals,but it is fun to go to all these sales.I have to get back to working on the coop---winter is coming--

Did I tell you I locked myself in the back room of the barn yesterday?

The door has hooks and eyes on both sides. I went in and locked the inside of the door so the chickens wouldn't get out. Meanwhile, the latch on the outside of the door latched itself!!! So there I was, locked in. I considered taking the grill off the window and climbing out, but I ended up finding a fly swatter a could slip out through the crack and lifted the latch. What next?
Today I planted the two rose bushes that have been sitting in pots. First I cleaned out one of the goat stalls so I had manure to plant with. Spread mulch on some of the flower beds. Man, that dirt is dry and hard! Put the remaining paving stones on the path I am making . Of course, I need more. Soaked everything with the hose, of course tonight it is pretending it might rain.
I poured concrete in the back garage where the soil eroded away. Of course, I had to make sure I covered it with plywood so the goats would not muck it up with hoof prints
Also painted the frame for the cabinet where the sink is going to go. There is a dirt floor, so the paint will help preserve it. And I put another coat of paint on the two pieces of plywood I plan to use for signs.
Critters are fed and watered, I hear there is a 70% chance of rain tonight. We sure need it.

I've locked myself in my grainery before. Not fun. We have a frost advisory tonight. I'm not ready for that. I hope everything makes it. I wasn't ready for it to be this cold already.

When my Ia Blue are ready will I kill the swap if I offer them?that is the only thing pure that I have laying. I figure in about 2 weeks they'll be pure. My Cochin are about 5 months old as well as my Polish. My Welsummer's are close to 5 months as well as my BC Marans. I can't wait for them to lay. Now I just need to finish my other breeding pens.

When I got feed today it was up $1 per 40 lb bag. I'm not liking that one bit.

I have a pair of Golden Laced and a trio of White Crested Black. The White Crested Black hens are 1 1/2 years old and haven't laid an egg since I got them the beginning of June. Any suggestions besides the soup pot? The GL are really nice looking birds. The WCB are just pet quality.
My Cochin are BBS. They are from a show line. The Cockerel is splash and the oldest pullets are : 2 Blue and 1 Black. Their comb and wattles are getting red as are the Welsummers.

Do you have a light on for them? Also, what are you feeding ? They don't seem to like those big layer pellets. Do you ever let them free range? Do they have oyster shell free choice? Mine are molting again, seems like they just did that a few months ago.

I have cochins too, three hens( two black and a blue) and a young pair of blues about 4 months old. I thought I was never going to find a rooster.

Today I finished painting the base for the sink. Now I need to haul it over to the barn, along with the sink and countertop. My concrete in the back garage is curing up nicely. Worked on the wire for an isolation pen in the back garage. Also hammered on the staples to keep the welded wire on another panel for the orange run. Wired it to the side of the run the Sussex are in, since that side only has chicken wire. Once I get the other run built, it won't need that panel there.
Tomorrow I need to buy feed and lumber, if I can get any at a decent price. Got a few bids on some eggs, so I will need to ship those soon as well

Well I called around and found 2x4s for $0.50 less each than Lowe's wanted. Then when I was there, I asked about free skids and they had a whole pile of four foot boards, FREE! Works for me, load em up! I tell you, by the time I got the feed in there, the Silverado was groaning! I took it home, unloaded it all and painted five boards for that run i am working on. Had several phone calls, one from a BYC member who came out to visit the farm and bought some hatching eggs. We had a great visit.
Silly quail flew out when i was trying to feed them. I got the net and almost caught it, but when i had to go through the gate to get into the pasture, i lost sight of it and heard it fly. Despite searching the area, i never saw it yet. It will probably get eaten tonight by some varmint.:-(
Another lady was supposed to come look at pullets, but never showed up.
Had about 20 chicks hatch so far, what cuties!

We have been real busy this week going to 5 sales this week and getting home late every night.So far the car is loaded down with as many boxes as you can get into it.Mostly glass wear and smalls. My pick up cab is full of stuff, Dana's truck cab is full 'we have 2 truck loads of medium size furniture and today we went to a special antique sale and got lots of big furniture. I'm sure we spent to much today but we have been saving up for this sale for a long time,just hope we can resale for some profit, or we will have the best looking booths in Arkansas.
