Went to the sale today at Scotts Hill. Sold a bunch of excess roosters. Only bought two pullets and a rooster but did not fund another SLW roo so I guess those are eating eggs for now. DH worked on the new pen for the Light Sussex, and actually made it bigger than I planned! Plus he attached the new nest box to the coop. I am going to have to put a door on the other end of the coop now, but I always appreciate help. So now I need to paint the wood he added on, run wood along the back of the coop to attach wire to, and run boards along the top for wire for the roof. Sold all the extra black silkie roosters.I now have two empty pens in the barn! So I will clean those out and use them to give young birds more space. Can hardly wait for spring!

I spent most of the day outside just cleaning out coops and talking to my chickens. I need to move one of the nest box condo's to another coop - my very first nest boxes were built by a friend and have 4 nests on top and 4 on the bottom. No one ever uses the bottom. So DH has the new ones in stackable 4's.. so I am taking to bottom level - replacing it with concrete blocks to keep the height of the top level the same..and taking it to the Coronation Sussex coop.. not that anyone has even thought about laying an egg in too long to discuss.. if they weren't such "high dollar" purchases.. I would threaten to eat them!!

Went to the auction last night and came home with a pair of white silkies.. was an impulse buy since I know the seller ..lol.. I wish I had more chickens to sell as the auction prices were still high -

Well let me get some more coffee and decide what to do today.

Today DH and I worked on the new Sussex Palace. I call it that because it is roomier than the other coops and has a bigger run. He got the boards up for the top of the run. I installed a sliding window, and he put a door on one end. I started putting wire on top but ran out of time.
I spent a lot of time working on putting multiple auctions in one slot tonight. Still a work in progress but see what you think.

So today I packed eggs most of the day. The weather was overcast but not too cold. Rain coming tomorrow i guess. Just watched movies with DH, kind of restful. Tomorrow i need to go to the PO. And buy more chicken feed again. It is supposed to be beautiful this weekend, so hopefully I can finish the chicken run and coop , then move the Sussex. That will be another empty pen in the barn, until I move the young birds into it.

Shipped eggs today, went shopping, bought lumber and hardware. It is supposed to get colder tonight, the wood stove is burning. I bought ingredients for meatloaf for tomorrow night. We are just finishing off the big pot of beef stew I made. Tomorrow I will pack more eggs and go to the po again. They love me at the post office:-D

Today I packed eggs from 10-2, so four hours with no lunch break. Went to town and shipped them. Picked up more chicken feed again! I was walking down to the barn with a bucket of goat feed in each hand, when the right lens of my glasses suddenly popped out! Once you start feeding goats, you just need to keep going because they will be all over you if you stop. So I took note of where I thought i lost it, and went back there but was unable to find it! Had DH look, he didn't find it either. I can see up close, but need them to see far away or drive or watch TV . So I really need them. They are fairly new, but i have had trouble with that lens all along. Now I need to try and find my old pair, but i hate looking for stuff without my glasses

. I really want to thank my BYC friends who have purcahsed eggs since the auction change, so I was able to feed the chickens this week. I feel like it is going to be OK now. Got the trays I ordered for my incubators today I think, didn't unpack them yet. But they hold 48 eggs instead of 30 like the paper trays so I can fit more in. I have a feeling I will need that feature come spring.

I need to go stick more eggs in the bator! Anybody else?

Hey hot,Put a black patch over the open lens and go pirate style. I have had a bad cold for 10 days now, so all i do is feed and build a fire and watch a lot of tv.

Yeah, if i went pirate i could drink rum. I can't even watch tv, can't see that far. So I am forced to put more eggs in the incubator and browse BYC. Put in three trays of 48 eggs each. Heck, I almost cleaned out the packing area.

It was a beautiful day here in TN, until the clouds closed in late this afternoon. I got a lot of work done, set up another brooder to move chicks out of the garage. I tacked on 25 feet of chicken wire to the roof of the new run, and down the end. Found another piece of welded wire to cover the gap where DH installed the panel upside down. I am thinking I will put the cochins in the new coop instead of the Sussex, since I have two roosters and more hens of the cochins.
The quail eggs I set after I sold the quail are starting to hatch! Way cute little buggers.

So because it was over a year since I got my glasses they want to do another $65. eye exam. Plus $49 dollars for one lens for lousy existing frames. Might as well get 2 pairs at sears for $100. Of course, no one can check my eyes until Thursday. I had to get to the PO today to ship a parcel, so I drove anyway. I can see OK, just can't read signs. Only went to the local po on back roads anyway.
Today was warm again, I am loving it! I got enough wire tacked on the run so it will hold chickens, but two small areas still need the chicken wire layer. I use welded wire over chicken wire. Tomorrow I hope to put the hinges on the door, install perches, feeder and waterer, then add chickens! Yay! Moved my horde of FBCM out of the garage into a brooder outside. Must go check them soon, but it is raining now. I sorted my oldest chicks today, looks like I am keeping about half.Moved them to another pen after I installed perches. I sold 10 dozen eating eggs today ! My fingers are water logged.:-D
