So, I had a Button Quail go broody. She sat until today and hatched only one baby. I candled the rest and they didn't make it.
Here's the problem, she hates it. She runs from it, makes screaming sounds and tries to stomp on it. She acts like it's an alien. I had to take it away and put it in a brooder. It is alone and cries.
I put a stuffed animal in the brooder with it. What else can I do? You can't buy button quail chicks anywhere.
I can't put it back with the mom, she is not having it. She's currently dust bathing, not giving a crap about anything.. crappy broody she was.
Advice?

Aww, what a little cutie. A mirror might help! Button quail are so tiny, even a different type of quail chick might still be too big.
You could probably have another chick or two visible through a grate, but not able to touch the baby.

It's so adorable! Poor little thing! As others have said, finding any kind of chick to have as a companion would be best . Over successfully raised baby quail along with LF chicks (mine were coturnix though). You could put a small mirror in the brooder so it looks like there's someone else there for her to talk to. And you could hang a feather duster in the brooder for her to snuggle under. Hope you find something that works! You could always just carry it around everywhere with you and end up with a very bonded quail. I had baby will in my bra for a few hours after they hatched once because the power went out.... They thought I was mom for a few weeks lol

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all your advice. I am going to look around online and see if anyone around me has any type of chicks for sale. With it being so cold around here, I doubt I will find any.:hitI will still try! For now, I will be sure to give it plenty of love and snuggles. There is many hands in this house that will hold the Lil baby often! :loveI still don't understand why mom wants nothing to do with her baby. :idunnooh well
