Throughout my years of breeding I have had a number of pairs only ever hatch out one egg at a time. The current one I am having this problem with are a pair of Chinese owls which is what I have mainly at the moment. Sometimes the egg is fertile, sometimes not. The last time the embryo looked very far a long but for some reason just never made it. Anyone know more about this??

I know exactly what you are talking about. However I can offer little explanation on its cause.

You see it a lot when you begin to incubate a hatch of chicken eggs as well.

I personally think the embryos for what ever reason do not have genetic vigor (due to inbreeding small gene pool what ever).

I have nothing to back up my observations.

Just my own personal thoughts and assumptions.

You could try a square dance move and maybe change your partners.
