I recently got a new coop for my 5 hens, I thought they were completely acclimated to it and had gone safety home and been locked in. Come 2 am there were calls of chickens in distress, when I ran out to check on them only one was secure in the coop, the other 4 must have been locked out accidentally (I feel terribly guilty for not having looked inside to make sure they were there when I locked the coop for the night). I've found one body and lots of feathers, and now only have one hen left.
We have cold snowy winters here sometimes getting into single digits at night. I'm worried I won't be able to keep my lone hen warm enough on her own and that she'll become depressed without company. I don't want to get new birds now (in October) because I worry about acclimating them to our cold overnight temperatures. Is my best option to try and re-home my last hen?

sorry for the losses. She may be fine on her own, but it would be easier on her to have company. Either in your coop or in another flock.
