Only roost is in front of the window. Is this ok?

My birds have other options, but they crowd on the bracket for the actual roost and the box for fan for a window seat???

Can you close the shutters? Maybe get some that will keep the cold out then at night when you put them to bed you can close them. That is a awesome coop and run design!!

Monk, your chickens made me laugh. How do they even get up there? Thanks all for the nice comments. Things are always changing. Most of the time I feel we are on a holding pattern waiting for the rain to go away. We put up a temporary pop up gazebo to cover the run to give them some relief. We here in NE are getting waaay too much rain.

I have a roost right in front of the window. I can tell who's at the top of the pecking order because they sleep on the sill. No problem with drafts in the summer, but I have a tarp awning over the outside area so rain doesn't get blown in.
In the winters, the window is closed, but I cover it on the outside with plastic, which cuts down on any leaks.

Monk.......I hope nobody loses a leg/toes if their feet slip through to the fan. Sorry.....I'm a worse-case-senario person!!

Also, I suppose if they poop, the fan shoots it outside. haha......hey...that gives me an idea for keeping the coop cleaner........have them roost on top of high powered fans.

P.S. Grammahen........I have the outside of the window securely covered with 1/2" hardware cloth. You don't want to tempt a coon to tear into a normal screen.

The fan is on a timer. It is not on at night as of now and it is the only time they roost up there, toes are safe for now. I believe it is a fad because of their size. As soon as the "poop hits the fan" I will be blocking that area off.

monk - sort of paints a picture, doesn't it?

My girls all roost in front of the window. I think they like looking out. As long as the weather is warm and there is no rain in the forecast, I leave the window open. During winter, the windows are closed and I haven't noticed any draft.

Just a cautionary note: Make sure that your window is covered in hardware wire and very securely installed. I wanted to do window boxes in the worst way - I LOVE the way they look, but was afraid of Mr. Raccoon sitting in the boxes at night and messing with the windows or just frightening the ladies. Especially if they are sleeping in front of the window, you don't want to give him any opportunities to hurt them.

Your coop is precious and your page is fun to look at. Love the shot of the chickie in the teacup!

My chicks like looking out the window as well. Their window is the event front bars covered with hardware cloth. Initially, I placed two 2" x 6" 18" long side by side near the window (event front).

All ten chicks would try to cram on to one board. The one closest to the window. Took those down and added one long leftover piece of plywood 6" x 5' I have mounted on shelf brackets 3-4" from the wall. They LOVE it and do climb over and under each other to get to the spot nearest the window or their buddy for the night

There is a sloped 2' overhang over the window but I plan to put a shudder I can close that still leaves about 6" open at top for ventilation.
