I just went out to give our chicks a treat (strawberries) and noticed that one of our (biggest) Plymouth Rock chicks' (about 8 wks old) tail is quivering - sort of looks like she's not doing it on purpose - that's it's involuntary....

This was the fastest growing chick and is visibly bigger than the other chicks (2 other PRs and 4 feather legs). She's VERY skittish. She appears to be eating and drinking.

Is this a sign of disease?

They started on medicated chick feed, and have now graduated to the "teen" food. They are sexed chicks bought from a very reputable Agway in town.....

SOUNDS LIKE MITES

have you looked her over?
she needs to be caught at night so as not to make her nervous and look her over

also for the nervous system I would feec the whole group some Vit E and Vit B complex in a wet mash probiotic

the wet mash probiotic is this

then feed them twice a day for two weeks this
for their needs for nerve damage

WET MASH MEDICATED/VIT'S

this is for one chicken
multiply it by amt of chickens fed this wet mash probiotic
3 tbsp of dry crumble feed
4 tbsp of milk any kind
1 tbspoon of yougart
1-400 mg Vit E cut tip off capsule and sqeeze it into the wet mash
1 Vit B complex crushed and put in the wet mash

mix all good
now put 1 tbsp of applesauce on top so she likes the wet mash

feed this twice a day for two weeks
when cleaned up in 30 minutes clean wet boewl and restock the dry feed

in the water give 2 tbsp of ACV to gallon of water
at all times
use it one day and the Vetrx the next day all the time your doctoring them

any questions just email me and I will try and help

Hi Glenda -

WOW! Thanks for all that info! I did check her over yesterday after I saw your email and see no signs of any mite infestion on her at all. Infact, she looks pretty clean. We did discover a sort of protrusion on the top of her tail - it's skin/bone and is pointing up....looks like it's part of her body - wonder if this makes her a him?!

Anyways.....she's still doing it today. I'm going to get the stuff on your list this morning and try and make her a mash. Do you think she should be seperated from the others?

I can't tell if she's slower today or not. She's the biggest one. I did notice yesterday that one of the girls went over and made her move from where she was sitting...she got pecked and moved over.

Making a list right now....

Any other ideas?

This is the girl in question (a few weeks ago, she's much bigger, but still has the biggest, pointest tail so far).

Oh - also - would I just make that mix x 7 and put down a dish for all of them to eat at the same time? i can't imagine trying to make sure they each got some unless i seperate them....

thanks!
