oocysts per gram count

2 EPG is very low and indicates you don't have a major issue with coccidia. They are present, but not causing issues. A high EPG count would be something on the order of 100,000 eggs per gram.

Thanks, good to know! I didn't realize it could be an order of magnitude difference - or more. I actually asked the vet at the state animal disease lab while I had her on the phone this morning, and she confirmed that 2 EPG was a very low count. However, she hypothesized that at the time the sample was collected there could have been damage (i.e. intestinal irritation that was causing the diarrhea) but not much shedding yet, hence the low oocyst count despite the obvious symptoms.
