Ooooh, only a few days left! *update w/pics* We're hatching!

I wasn't hearing anything last night. My store refridgerator eggs were being still and quiet and I thought maybe they were dead after all.

But I just peeked in there and I have one chickie out. It looks like a pure Australorp. But not positive. Also appears to be rooster. But we shall see.

Sure is a quiet little thing though. Most of my birds come out screaming. lol

2 eggs left. With no movement.

We'll see how it goes.

My old bator used to hatch them 2 days early. Now I got a brinsea and actually waiting the full 21 days is killing me.

This has taken 51 hours and #4 is still in the process of hatching - there is a big hole in the egg and I can hear the chick peeping. She hatched 2 black chicks that have a few white polka dots on them and the second two are very light smoky blue/gray. I can't wait for # 4 to come completely out of the egg. Sugar is an unbelievably good Mommy - very protective, and was teaching her first two to peck at warm mash this morning before I left for work. It's just amazing, people, amazing! I don't know if egg 5 will hatch...I don't hear any peeping or scratching or tapping coming from it...maybe it is not fertile? Anyway, I am so proud of my little sugar! Will try to post a few photos from work tomorrow if I have time.

I have two broodies as well, due for the end of Dec. They are so useful! Now I have more space for my bator, too! Heehee.

I am going to try and upload a photo of my Sugar with her first two chicks..will bring more tomorrow with photo of all the chicks if they will all come out from under her at one time.

The last little chick to hatch out was NOT a Silkie chick - I have no idea what the little chick is - looks like an EE with yellow legs, but I'm not sure. It has little stripes on its back and it is a very feisty little chick! I guess my EE rooster, Hannibal, could possibly have impregnated one of my Silkies...there is also a tiny bantam rooster with very glossy gold and red and black feathers - he also has access to my Silkies. Being honest, I'm not sure what chicken did what with which chicken. However, the little smoke-colored chicken looks just like my Silkie rooster, so I'm thinking there is at least one pure Silkie among the bunch. The ones in the photo I just posted are all black except for the couple of white polka dots on each one. The first 3 chicks have black skin and black feet and beaks with just a tiny white polka dot on the tip of the beak which I think is the 'egg' tooth. Okay...will post some more tomorrow. I will count the toes on them to see if any are 'most likely' to be full Silkies. This is so much fun, so much fun!!!

Gorgeous!! Congrats on the babies! Given their parentage, they sound like they'll feather out beautifully!

- I'll try to get a shot of all 4 of Sugar's if they will come out. The first 2 are very adventuresome, the 3rd one plays 'I'm hiding I'm hiding and noone knows where' all evening long and the 4th one is feisty and comes out a good bit, so I'll try. When I get off work I have to drive 40 agonizing minutes to my house

...thank God for interstate highways!

Oh....forgot to say - hope your cow is okay and not too seriously ill.

I need a farm too ....about 200 acres will do me. I've wanted a barn forever...I worry more about housing for my animals than I do about the housing I live in...not a day goes by I'm wondering - are the chickens warm enough, etc etc etc and I want goats and a couple of turkeys and WIDE OPEN SPACES!
