OOoooh! 1st Ever DUCKIES!!!

How did you know they were males? You really can't tell male from female in pekins when they are small, not until they start quacking. The males and females sound different. Another way to tell is when they are older, the males will have a little curl on the end of their tails.

For the ones you do have, pekins make excellent pets and are usually very people friendly!

The boys will be a raspy kind of low more quiet quack and the girls will be quite noisy in comparison! But you won't notice that until they are several weeks or months old!

I think with some of the other breeds you can do that, but if you go on feathersite.com and look at them on there, as babies, you can't see a difference. Even as adults there is not really any leg color differences.
I know with Khaki Campbells, the females will have more of a tan-ish colored legs and the males very orange.

We brooded a batch of Pekins last year (two males and a female), and have a batch brooding now (too early to tell).

Maybe we're not observant enough, but we could see no discernible difference in beak and foot color in either batch, and certainly not enough to tell male and female! I'd be surprised if Pekins can be sexed that way.

two of my drakes have orange legs and bills, another drake has a light pinkish bill and orange legs, and my girl has the same light pinkish bill and orange legs.
