Oops, 17% protein feed?

I recently bought our first bag of all flock since the chicks were running out of crumbles. TSC had 2 brands to choose from so I just picked one, they were both 17% protein , Nutrena or Dumor-I bought Dumor. Now I’m realizing 20% is the recommended norm? Should I get something different next time and is this bag ok for now? Thanks.

They'll be fine, the bare minimum is 16% so this is already better than that. If you want to switch, I'd finish that bag off first, no sense in needlessly wasting feed. You are correct that higher protein is better though and I would get the 20% feed next time if possible!

Just throw some extra mealworms every few days. That should keep their protein levels up. Hope this helps!

Anytime! I had some problems with low protein chicken feed, and when I gave them mealworms, it seemed to help with feather growth, and egg production!

Nah, the nutrena will be just fine. The only reason I am not using that myself is it's in a 40lb bag rather than a 50lb bag. If you choose to order, chewy has reasonable prices and a good variety

Well that was also 17%. Those were the only 2 plain all flock brands, or maybe they were just out. I might try C-A-L ranch next time.

Ah, then I would go elsewhere or order if they only have 17%. Nutrena also has a 20% all flock feed which is what I was thinking of

How old are your birds? Is it also a layer feed?
