DH was wondering why he was having so much trouble with his big satellite dish. He pulled this wad of straw out of the nose of it, then realized something was alive in there! Then, we see that a flying squirrel mama, with baby in mouth, was trying to back out of the opening, so he holds the nest together and we place it in a small trash can, laid on its side. In a few minutes, I see her sprint across the yard and she stashes her baby somewhere, then comes back and explores the now disassembled nose looking for her nest. I see her then fly to a far tree and takes her baby into a bluebird house hanging on it. So, she now has a new home, but DH is trying to replace cable that she chewed up.

I hope mama squirrel isn't too put out! Sounds like DH is though...hope he gets his cable fixed...that's just too funny!

She flew like a bird or flew like running fast?

A year or so ago I had a flying squirrel nesting in a blue bird box on the power pole. Hope yours does OK.

She sprinted across the yard, up a tree, down a tree, across to another tree, then she did fly to the one where the bluebird box is hanging with the baby, left the baby somewhere over there, then ran back to the satellite pole, up it and poor thing, I felt so sorry for her, wondering where her nest went. She has a good home now, though. I bet there was still nest material in that box she chose and I put a metal flange around the entrance hole when I first got it years ago so gray squirrels couldn't chew that hole into a larger one.

What a neat experience. (I have never seen a flying squirrel)
