Oops, excuse me, ma'am

Am I the only one who feels like this? Our coop has a small door that opens up to the nest boxes. I always feel so embarrassed when I open it up and our lone laying hen is in there.

My 13 yo DD said to me this morning, "I walked in on her earlier."

Hmmmm... I usually apologize to them while I'm reaching under them to "steal" their eggs. I have no broodies, they just like to lay in the nestboxes for a nap and then they pop out as if nothing was going on. Naughty hens! Not embarassed, though. Nope, not me. I don't feel bad when I reach under them either, and I think it's kind of funny when they squawk at me. I guess I have no shame!

My favorite hen takes about 3 hours on the nest; if I'm giving treats when she's on the nest, I take her some and she eats whatever it is (including oatmeal!) while she's sitting there, and she seems to enjoy the 'room service.

LOL I don't really mind.

One of our BO hens is broody right now and I'm like, "Excuse me, I just gotta take one of these eggs for a minute" when I candle them.

She doesn't really like it when I reach under her; gets all puffed up and starts growling.

And my Red Star, Cinnamon, acts broody when she's about to lay her daily egg.

She will sometimes scream at you if you walk into the coop unexpectedly! LOL she's like, "Hey! Get out! Can't you see I'm in here???!!!"

And if you reach under her she will bite.

Silly hens.

I don't really get embarrassed but I do find it terribly cute that when my 7 year old son goes in to get the eggs, he walks real easy and says over and over "Excuse me, Excuse me, Pardon me, Pardon me" and then after he takes the eggs he thanks them all !!!
