Gathering eggs, dropped two on the concrete.
Splat !!

Is it ok if I call the girls over to eat that mess? Raw of course.
I'd pick the shells out so they don't see too much, what it is.

is it a good idea to call them over? ie don't want them to get into the habit of eating eggs now do we!

Would they even eat it? Hate to waste it, yet don't want coons and stuff here either because of it.

Thanks
Aaron

Mine eat eggs near constantly (that's the problem with almost 100 birds and no one that really eats eggs here). I had a male that was bad about eating eggs (he got into a broody nest once too, that was horrific), but usually not. I crack the egg, dump the contents in the feed and the shells get thrown separately away. My thought process is that it separates the connection between the two, but they actively watch me break them too, so I don't know if it works or not. Usually they only eat eggs if they're not getting fed enough or they're breaking

Thank you for the replies everyone. I just wanted to be sure I didn't cause a bigger issue by letting them gobble it up. Now for my fat fingers that dropped the eggs. Funny thing is, i was going through some older posts here and seen where someone mentioned dropping eggs and I said to myself, hmm haven't done that yet. Had one roll off a garbage can lid but not a direct drop. That'll teach me to be smug :D

I have seen one or two broken on occasion in the nesting box and it appears they did try to clean it up a bit, there was much less goop than Id expect from a busted egg. Lets hope this does not become a habit.
