We got a call from the post office today that they had some birds for us. We ordered (or thought we ordered) 4 sebastopol geese and 4 welsh harlequin ducks to go with our buff geese, Indian runners and campbells we already have. I get them home and apparently we ordered the 4 geese, 6 welsh and 4 rouen ducks. Surprise. We have 6 more ducks than we thought we ordered. We talked about the rouens but didn't realize we ordered them. And didn't know we ordered the extra 2 welsh either. They are so adorable. My mother in law came and bird sat for us on spring break and fell in love with the ducks. She has been asking us about duck ownership and if she could have some of our babies since then. We're going to give her the 2 extra welsh when they are ready to come out of the brooder. She is really excited. Has been texting me all day for supply lists and house requirements. :-) . Didn't take her long to figure out why we are duck crazy.

lol, i'm duck crazy too! They are so fun...more so than chickens i think. That's kinda fun to have the extra, and i bet your mother in law is glad too!

She is so excited. There are days when I really wish no one showed her how to send a text message. She had both me and my husband all day text after text about supplies and my husband is going to build her the house. She will probably text at least 5 times a day to check on them and make sure we're handling them so they like people. She is like a kid. Can't blame her though. When I went to the post office to get them I was practically jumping up and down. We have geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys and guineas. The ducks are absolutely my favorites. They are the only ones that we don't really use in some way. I have used their eggs to feed to the other animals but we don't depend on them. I love to watch the ducks and I love the way they respond to me.

lol, i would be too! I feel so excited every time i get new animals, no matter how many times i've done it! My family says its crazy when i am waiting for a new animal. I go from sort of serious and sarcastic to chattering on and on about the animals. Yeah, all the other animals we depend on for food, but the ducks are pets with the side bonus of really tasty eggs...if we have them i totally prefer duck eggs to chickens because they taste so much richer!
