Chalk this one up to a newbie learning a painful lesson - and it's okay, you can laugh at me!

Last night I painted my toenails a very bright orangey-red color. Perfect for summer. I just went out to top off the feeder because I remembered I forgot to do it this morning. Normally I wear shoes in the run (chicken poo and all), but the feeder's right by the door and I didn't plan to go in, so I was barefoot. As soon as I opened the door these six CRAZY CHICKENS attacked my toes! As in, they went completely psycho to the point that they drew blood!!

Somewhere I read that chickens are attracted to red colors? Holy freaking cow!! After I stopped shrieking and slammed the door, all I could think was, "WOW. I'm glad I don't wear lipstick!!"

So. Lesson learned today? Always wear shoes around chickens.

Lol, mine are a bit more used to nailpolish and jewelry, took them awhile to quit getting at my tattoos though

According to my daughter's 1st grade science project - yes, they are attracted to red. :)

Fun story. Hopefully they don't decide that your toes are tasty regardless of toenail color.

I figured out that is why I have never had trouble with new chicks finding their food and water because I use the red ones you buy at Tractor Supply. Some people say you must dip the beaks of the new chicks into the feed and water, but I have never had to, and it is obviously because of the red food trays.

Sorry, but I had a good laugh at your expense. Thanks I needed that. It sounds exactly like something I would do so I can appreciate your experience. I will have to remember that when I get my chickens.

I guess that's why all the chicken nipples are red.

Hope your toes healed well.
