That is how you start. Save the cock chick, he will be split to both Opal and Purple, raise him up and use him with the Purple split Opal hen.

yes, remember hens can not be split to a sex-linked color. I would use the split Purple and Opal cock over a Purple split Opal hen. That is why it takes a couple of generations. So in about seven years or so you can produce what you can buy today.
