Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

We actually have a weather prediction calling for no rain. It quit yesterday afternoon and so by mid morning the grass should be dry enough to mow. I'll go around everything with the weed eater this morning and then late morning start mowing. As long as it's gotten I think I'll probably have to pick it up with the sweeper. Upside of that is that it's good to add material to add to my compost.

Glad it stop raining, Opa!

Good morning, all! Summer Break starts today!

Somehow I didn't realize that the turner wasn't working until after 39 bantam eggs had sat in the incubator for 10 days. I thought I'd go ahead and see if any would hatch. I pulled a dozen eggs on the 17th day because they hadn't done a thing. I wasn't very optimistic about the others. Today makes day 21 and I just checked. One egg has exploded, one Vorwerk chick has pipped, and one blue Orpington has hatched. Will wonders never cease?

Well, after 4 years of working at the school I have decided not to go back next school year. I will miss the children, but not the people I work with. The only 2 people I get along with are leaving too. We have a boss that doesn't handle any problems and tends to make it worse. There is a woman who is supposed to be in charge when he is not around, which is most of the time! Well she does not like the 3 of us for whatever reason and will not talk to us. How can you be in charge when you wont even talk to the people you are supposed to be supervising? Mind you this is an area that only has 6 people, and she will only talk to the other two. She bad mouths us and is so negative. I just hate the fact that we are all leaving, it is like she won. Her bad behavior has been rewarded! If you don't like the people you work with just be really rude and intolerable and they will eventually go away. It just makes me so mad!

Mamma G, I can relate to your situation. When I was on the fire department there wasn't a single day that I didn't look forward to going to work. I loved fire fighting and since our department provided the emergency medical service for the community I would work very rewarding. The year before I retired I could see that I wasn't going to like working there much longer. The last chief I had worked for had a clique of individuals that were his yes men. While our promotions were supposedly based on an examination given by a testing company hired by the Civil Service Commission and were supposed to be totally above board. Yet when it came to promotions those who scored the highest were in the clique. When it came to new hires they were bringing nepotism to an art form.

I had my twenty five years in and was a Captain and very much aware that I would advance no higher. I could see that some of my least favorite underlings would soon be promoted over me. I decided that it would be wise to retire while I still had a job to retire from. Another captain who like me had planned on working a 30 year career was not a member of the clique and they wanted him to retire so that it would create a captains vacancy that someones son could be promoted into. When he had his 25 years in and hadn't filed for retirement they decided to force him out.

He would have every incident report rejected and he would have to rewrite it numerous times. Every decision he made was questioned and then they claimed he had an attitude problem that required he go everyday he was off duty to see a psychiatrist. Finally they decided that he didn't follow the proper procedures on a house fire and he was fined and reduced in rank to sergeant. It was implied that he could wind up retiring as a fire fighter. He finally put in his papers but their actions greatly reduced the retirement for which he had worked so hard.

It really sad when someone with a personal agenda can make a great job into a nightmare.

It seems the way of the world today. I moved from California to Ohio to a small rural town and haven't been able to break into the job market here in ten years.

With the fresh influx of unemployed, they just hire their friends and family around here. I am an outsider and out of state. I've been told more than once to 'go back to where I came from'.

I sure am happy watching my chickens!

Cheers,
Bonnie

Today, I'm going bowling with a good friend of mine.

Good evening, all! My novel is going well, and I'm figuring out all of my characters and what relation they have to one another. I'm having a good time with my new friend, and everything is going quite well!

to all, and I hope you have a good week!

Just got back a little while ago from my whirlwind trip south. I went to my daughter-in-laws brother's house. Joe and his family are going to be there all this week and he brought 1/2 a hog with him for me. We got to South Point Ohio about noon yesterday and left about 10 this morning. While it wasn't a very long visit it was still nice to see everyone. I couldn't believe how much Morgan has grown since October.
