Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Good morning! I have an incredibly nasty head cold. Hope everyone else is feeling better than I am!

I never got why people play with their phones so much. At that point, you might as well get a portable gaming system. It's also pretty rude and just plain weird when people play with them at a function where you're supposed to be paying attention to something else.

Yep I hate people spending alot of time on cell phones. Granted I don't mind them looking at it to see if it is an emergency.

Too many times, my relatives said "Aren't you going to answer it?" when my cell vibrates every two minutes. I said NOPE, I'm spending time with family. If I need to go to the bathroom, I will take care of it in there!"

Cell phones can be great, especially when you have kids and you can keep in touch with them if they are not at home. On the other hand some people are so ridiculous with them. Mine is only for if you really need to talk to me. I do not chit chat on it, and I very rarely talk on it when I am driving. As for texting, no way!

PK hope you feel better fast. Colds in the hot weather really stink!

I really hate being in a restaurant and having someone at the next table talking on a cell phone. Often the establishment will be noisy with typical noises one would expect to hear. Then the idiot at the next table will answer his cell phone and think that since it's difficult for him to hear he must talk louder so his caller can hear him. When the conversation goes on and on, louder and louder, I find it very distracting and extremely rude. I keep telling myself that the next time that happens I going to ask if they would mind putting it on speaker phone so I can hear the other side of the conversation and find out if he's as big of jerk as you are.

"Mom, may I please have one more week of Summer Break, seeing as how your car is going into the shop to be fixed up next week?"

"Yes."

That seems like a reasonable request, and you did say please.

Sprite, I started to ask why were up so late and then I remembered the time difference. My old man internal alarm clock thought it was morning. I think I'll finish this cup of coffee and go back to bed.

Yes, especially since that my previous break was 2 weeks.
To me, manners are one of the most important things in the world. I always make sure to say please and thank you, address my superiors and adults with the proper title, and many more things like that.

Actually, despite the time difference, it's 11:42 PM here.

I'm not really tired.

Good night, and sweet dreams Opa!

Today was a reasonably good day.

I got the lion's share to the garden finished. All that's left is planting the tomato and pepper plants.

This afternoon Hope, Granny and I went to Hope's oldest son Roy's house to help his with his garden. They have never had one before and the ground had never be worked up. I took and rototiller and a large quanity of two year old composted chicken manure and wood shavings to amended the soil. We got the soil prepped and then Hope helped them plant. Their garden area is about 350 sq ft and they bought enough plants for one 5 times larger.

This week I placed an Eggs For Sale sign in front of my house, a small refrigerator on the porch, and a locked donations box on the porch. I kept adding eggs throughout the week and tonight I opened the cash box for the first time. I was pleasantly surprized. The monies worked out to $2.75 per dozen.

Eggs signs out around here are 1.25-$2 a dozen. Store prices just dropped to $1 when they ran at $2 all winter.

I can't sell them in town as my chickies in town aren't legal.

Said I can't have chickens for sale or for use.

Doesn't say I can't sell farm eggs, though. But that would probably make them put two and two together and come start looking for chickens or listening for roosters crowing. (He is too young to crow, but is making weird noises at 10 weeks old!) Good thing I can have my chickens at the farm with the alpacas!

Spent my day shifting stall hay out into the wet paddock. Got a cria due and they like to have them on the manure pile. Put straw on everything! Also still some puddles in the paddock. She's a good mom, but don't want any accidents!

My friend has bob white eggs/chicks under her silkie bantam hen. She says the chicks will be the only mother they know. This should make for some interesting pictures!

Did some mowing. Got half the yard done and the mower died/sounds funny choking in the engine. Don't know if it is BAD GAS but the Jeep sounds the same way.....could be the spark plug??

It is RAINING again....

Have a good Memorial Day Weekend all....

What a great gardening day Opa! That sounds like a nice way to sell eggs also. Having a particularly wet week, even by Oregon standards. It is a wonder that the chickens do not sprout webbing between their toes. Most of my garden mounds have been turned over once. The raised planting area helps the soil drain a lot. Hoping to get seed flats planted with kale, Holland greens, and collards tomorrow. I think we are out of frost danger but it will be about another 2 weeks before setting tomatoes out. They simply do not want to grow when temps are steady in the 40's day and night. It seems like it will be one of those years were we go from wet winter weather to summer and sort of skip spring. Should be a bumper crop of trees frogs this year!
