Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Well I'm hopefull on a new place for the alpacas and the chickens. Nice little hobby farm set up, just have to hear about the price for renting and still trying to figure the costs of moving a trailer onto the existing piers/redoing the piers and pay a couple thou in inspection fees!!

I can see all kinds of opportunities for it under a longterm lease. Hubby as usual things I'm out of my wig.

In the meantime, sold my 4 laying hens to a local gal in need of chickens and get to move the hatchery suspect Wellie chicks into the pit green house for running room instead of the basement. Then get to clean up the basement! Permanently, cause I want that area for tornado shelter for the rest of the summer.

Rained hard during the night. Got to run out to feed the alpacas, most of the goat problem seems resolved-no more intrusions, and just a matter of cleaning up more of the mess they left behind! Flies are bad, so going to spray down the girls again to help give them some relief. Need to haul some grain out there for them too.

Firing up the brooder to make sure the temps are good and all ready for some Wellies from OPA. Those pics are SO CUTE! THANKS!!!

Radiation is DONE, so now over the next 3 weeks we watch out for the burns to surface. Last time, it turned to raw hamburger in one area. Chemo is not until the 7th of July, seems a bit longer, but he is in BETTER shape than he was this spring. Cancer journeys are incredible with the ups and the downs and the uncertainty. Might have my dear hubby around for a few more months or even a year if this chemo continues to work for him. Families get worn thin, too, and it's been a 7 year journey. We are blessed to have gotten the daughter graduated from high school. She's off to college in the fall, just plain scary as she will be 5 hours driving away. We are planning to SKYPE daily so she can see Daddy on the computer and talk to him! (Course that means she will need to buy a laptop with a camera built into it and she wants one for college anyways!)

So the question is, how many chicks do you have to sell in order to pay for a year of college? Me thinks about 100,000. Guess we will just add the egg money to the college fund jar.....................maybe buy a few notebooks or something!

Chickenstock to do list: Make the coleslaw Friday night, Set up the brooder, scrub down the cages, pick up the 2 silkie hens that are placed, load the car with a table, chairs, cooler, blanket, cages, silkie chicks and hens.

Should I bring my CULL Wellies that are older now from this spring? Would anyone want them for Easter Egger projects or just pets? The only thing I want to be bringing back are the barred rocks for Chris and my Wellies from Opa, unless I catch chicken fever.......or there is smoked chicken for sale......or something from the raffle table......

Cheers all.

Well another Chickenstock has come and gone and what a wonderful day it was. If I were in charge of the weather I think today is exactly what I would have ordered. Partly sunny, gentle breezes, and a high of 77. Don't thnk you could have asked for better. As in years past the amount and variety of food was incredible, and if anyone left hungry it was their own fault.

According to the signin register we had 62 BYCers in attendance but I'm sure that several neglected to sign in and I would guess that we had about 150 folks there. Lots of beautiful chickens, ducks, geese, and rabbits and everyone of them appeared extremely healthy and well cared for.

I took 14 Welsummer chicks to Chickenstock for Vanalpaca and like a senile old man is won't to do, I forgot the hatching eggs that I had promised her. As it turned out that was a good thing. She decided to swing by our place on her way home to get the eggs and that allowed us to spend time with just her. So now with the chicks and the eggs she will be well on her way towards building a Welsummer flock.

Very nice, I'm glad it was a lovely day and everyone had a good time!

I thought about you today and hoped all would go well.

Sounds like Chickenstock was a success; glad you all had a wonderful time!!
Vanalpaca will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers

Hi to everyone else!
Been a busy couple of weeks here. Had my grandsons for a week (4 and 6 yrs. old) and we had a wonderful time. They fed chickens, shelled peas, churned butter, learned some card games and kept us smiling and laughing. Hated to see them leave but hoping to get them back again before the summer is over. Momma has not been well this week and we have been doctoring; with another appointment next week. She does seem to enjoy going to adult day care and getting out around others and it has been good for her. Hopefully her current infection will clear up this week and she will be feeling better.
Was really nice for a few days here and then last night the humidity and temp came up and the a/c went back on!! Possible storms for the next few days so momma will be spending her nights with us and she isn't happy. This new antibiotic med for her infection the doc put her on has her in a foul mood; she's not supposed to have any coffee; chocolate, milk, orange juice or dairy while she is on it. Well she is a confirmed coffee drinkin' chocoholic and I had to clear her pantry and freezer....apparently in her mind ice cream isn't dairy...even if the bars have chocolate on them...oh my, what a battle its been!!!! She's ready to chuck the medicine and just throw up her hands and die if she can't have coffee (which I totally understand by the way) her chocolate or ice cream....what is there to live for???????

I'm sure she will get through this and I just can't wait until the medicine is gone and I can give her back her coffee pot and cookies!!!!!!
Keep smiling everyone and have a great evening!!!
Blessings,
CCMH

Hi Ec, I'm a bit warmish right now, yet summer has just begun. Are you through with classes for the summer? What's going on with your chickens these days?

CCMH, my mom used to hide foods she wasn't supposed to have. She had lung cancer that spread to her brain, made it misfire a lot. We all tried to keep some humor in it, though it was tough at times! She developed a real "thing" for Gummi Bears, we used to find them stashed all over. My MIL had a similar situation - but much to our surprise, she was stashing money all over!

Bless you for taking such good care of her. I bet it was fun having the grandsons, sounds like would have been and ideal vacation when I was a kid!

I hope you're staying cool! The heat can be quite oppressive during this time. My chickens are doing just fine, and we're about to introduce 4 new ones to the main flock! I just started school up again after a three week break. I'm just getting back into the swing of things right now. Currently, the topics of discussion are:

The 3rd Declension (Latin)
The Founding Fathers (History)
X and Y Axes (Math)
Cells (Biology)
Programming

The Third Declension, I had to google it.

Wow! Latin is absolutely a very important thing to learn. As you know, I am fond of languages and their origins. Just when you think you'll never need it? You'll need it. It's like Algebra.

Three of five are things I have studied, but it was a long time ago. Some of the Founding Fathers may have been alive then!

Programming? Oh, how I wish! I never even set my hands on a computer until I was in my late thirties or so. Absolutely a fabulous thing to learn.
