Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Yep, here too....

This is one week that I was glad for it to finally be over. On Sunday I started sneezing and coughing, on Monday I ached all over, Tuesday I couldn't hardly work up enough energy to even eat. The racking cough made my ribs feel as though they were tearing loose. Wednesday I felt like I had been rode hard and put away wet. Yesterday and today I was better and had to get to a house renovation I have been working on. I managed to put in two good days and got the house closed to the weather, all of the new batten boards installed, the deck top finish and about 60% of the handrail up. The homeowners was thrilled but I certainly feel everyone of my sixty five years.

Tomorrow is Morgan's birthday and she has a swim meet in Oklahoma City so they will be leaving early in the morning and not getting home until late. Since I was anxious to find out if she liked her toe socks, I sent her a text telling her that since her birthday was less than 6 hours away she could open the package I had shipped to her. She loved them so was again Opa scored some points in the grandfather business.

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well Opa. Hope you shake it off fast. The weather has been beautiful here, so we have been very busy getting things done, and spending family time together before the new school year starts. I hate when school starts up again, I love the casualness of summer, no homework, sleeping in and just taking things one day at a time. Lots of day trips, and just spending fun time together. I miss all of that once school starts, especially since my husband works weekends, and we don't get to do much family stuff during the school year.

I hope everyone is having some good weather, and people who need it get some rain. I have been praying for all these drought areas, especially the Texas area.

Just checking in. If this shows up I will know I'm still alive. Didn't know you were sick Sam, I would have called so we could whine together.

Rain is all here - thunderstorms daily. I'm still trying to figure out how to send them back west!

Mama, didn't you decide not to work this school year? Hope you enjoy the extra bit of time!

The young guy across the street has spent several days working up about a 1/4 plot of ground directly behind my house. He than seeded it with ladino clover, brassica, and kale. It is about 100 yards from my house and with all of my garden hose and all of his he was able to water it at little. He told me that at least the seeds are damp but he was going to pray for rain. Yesterday morning a nice soaking rain came though here and I thought his prayers were answered. Then last night we had a very intense storm blow through here. Sixty mile per hour winds and rainfall at a rate of 4 inches per hour. The Weather Channel color radar map was downright scary looking. It showed a large green mass traveling across the state. The size of the yellow and red bands of more intense rainfall it contained was bad enough but it was the first time I had have ever noticed the much more intense purple. When the storm finally passed I called the neighbor and asked that the next time he prays for rain he should tone it down a bit.

We has rain predicted for several times throughout today so I think his seeds should be wet enough. I sure wish that this latest rain could have been situated 700 miles southwest of here. I feel guilty complaining about rain with Joe needing rain so badly.

Looks like a fairly decent weather forecast for the coming week. Canned 9 quarts of dill pickles yesterday and I got to start thinking about picking the bell peppers. With the exception of the tomatoes the garden has done wonderfully this year. Not really sure what happened with the tomatoes. The only thing I can think of is that this was the third year in the exact same spot and I think I should have moved them to a different spot in the garden.

Watching the tragedy at the Indiana State Fair on television sure reminds me of just how fragile life really is. One moment a crowd of happy people and a moment later anguish and pain. Granny has a saying that seems to be a good way to look at life. You need to stay paid up, prayed up, and ready to go up.

Talked with my son Joe yesterday and I think that Hope and I will probably head for Missouri the first of October. He wants me to rebuild a wagon body for him. He has a freight wagon that he pulls with a team of mules that they use for a lot of Morgan's school events and he would feel better using it if it were rebuilt. I've also got enough marble to tile one of the bathrooms in Scott's house, so it looks like I will be busy. I also intend to take several days for just Hope and I to do some sightseeing through the Ozarks and October should be nice time for that.

Our Caladonia Cutie has posted in a while. Probably still trying to catch up on everything after her trip to the US. Sure wish that I would have been able to have spend some time with her. I know Ranchhand certainly enjoyed the opportunity to vist with her. Isn't it wonderful the friendships that have developed as a result of this site?

Perhaps it's a good job that you didn't make it down to Florida, it would be a very different thing you'd be calling me now!

Yep, it's been busy round here too. I've been working a lot trying to pay off the mouse that we visited over there, that dude knows how to make money! Also the kids start back to school tomorrow so I've been getting all their stuff organised. I have mixed feelings about them going back. Early starts again but then I get peaceful mornings.

The other reason I wasn't able to post is because my son got a (spawn of the devil) sweet little kitten for his birthday. She's ever so (evil) mischevious and the little (hellcat) monkey managed to spill coffee on my laptop keyboard last week and shorted the circuits so a lot of the keys didn't work any more. She has also managed to tip over vases, shred the curtains, terrorise our adult cat and we all have lacerations on our arms and legs. She does make us (want to choke her) laugh. Here is a pic of the offending creature, as you can see we tried to feed her to the dogs but they clearly weren't hungry enough.

Hope you are feeling better Sam. Also hoping all those that need rain get it soon and those that need sunshine (

) get it even sooner!

Hugs to all!

Thistle, right in the "Father's Handbook" it reads "it is a father's responsibility to constantly remind his daughter how beautiful she is". I'm pretty sure this applies to cyber daughters as well.

Good evening, everyone!

We're nearly done with Summer Break here. I'm glad for it, too. I've been really bored the past few weeks. I'm taking the PSAT this October, and participating in NaNoWriMo again, which will be fun on top of the fanscript project.
