Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

It was cold and sunny here as well, but I'd be willing to bet it was much cooler than Ranchie's cool. I think our high today was 36. Strange gun season; saw fewer few deer, less hunters than normal, no snow other than a few flurries, and this was the first time in 32 years that my best friend hasn't hunted with me. He has an extremely bad back and reinjuried it while working on the 100 year old house they bought. We still have 2 more days of gun season, then muzzleloading deer season opens two days after gun season closes and runs for 16 days. Then we have a special doe only season of 12 days that follows. Hopefully he will be able to make some of that time.

I took 2 small does yesterday. While they don't have much meat it is extremely tender eating and the certainly are much much easier to drag out of the woods.

Ranchie spray the area you want to plant with Roundup. It kills everything and then 30 days later rake, till, and plant.

Peepacheep, welcome! I lurked for a long time before I started joining in any thread conversations. Never have looked back since I hopped into this wonderful thread. Appreciate the plastic idea but realized all I have on hand is a "truckload" of clear plastic. Then I remembered I also have a "truckload" of newspaper! So my thinking is newspaper, wet it down and then cover with plastic. Between the light blockage and the heat it should get rid of the grass to the point it can be tilled in. And yep, spring comes a tad bit earlier in SC. Unfortunately, so does the hot, humid summer!

Opa, I'd use Roundup except the area is surrounded by the azaleas, and Lord knows the Azalea Ranch has to have its azaleas! Sorry the hunting has been so poor, I was really hoping you would have a better start. The injured friend, is that Bob? Please give him my best for a fast recovery. Old houses are a PITA. This drafty old house is being a pain right now, cold and damp.

How about a couple of pigs?

We only have the wimpy American pigs here, all they're good for is bacon. I guess Scottish pigs have horns? And haggis to keep them going?

Well I have met my fair share of horny pigs in my time...........

In Texas we had horned toads - dang things were ALWAYS hanging around! But luckily, Mom explained that kissing toads was just part of someday finding your prince.

Once upon a time, a beautiful, independent, self-assured princess happened upon a frog in a pond. The frog said to the princess, ” I once was a handsome prince until an evil witch put a spell on me. One kiss from you and I will turn back into a prince and then we can marry, move into the castle with my mom and you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children and forever feel happy doing so.” That night, while the princess dined on frog legs, she kept laughing and saying, “I don’t THINK so.”
