Does an open air coop have to be large? I realize the roost has to be far away from the windows but just how far back? We are trying to make this project economical but still quality.

I was hoping for a small coop 5x7, shed style roof pitching backwards, run off to one side 8 x7.

I'm struggling with still making it cute and pretty to look at while economical and of course and foremost safe.

Have you looked at the Woods coop designs? Wish I had one! You can have open air but sheltered, and partially close off some areas in winter, and 'cute' would be nice too, although I went with functional instead. Mary

If you're talking about a Woods Style open air coop, there may be a limit to how small you can go for it to be effective.
Was under discussion here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1131864/woods-house-mini by a guy who has studied the concept intensely.
