I have always done open air houses. I have never understood why folks enclose the birds. Those are often sick or weak birds. I do not have as big of buildings but all my coops and tractors are open air. The only protection is from the wind. I make sure I turn all 27 tractors so the open part is away from the wind. They all do well during the winter, even Silkies.
