Open/Moist Vent and Squatting Well Before Laying?

Truthfully - I find it closer to 4 weeks, after the comb has redden-ed. But while pullets are suppose to lay in the short days of winter, I only find that true IF they start laying before those short days... I don't add light to mine, and that makes a difference I am sure.

I would expect those girls to not start laying until mid January if you are in the northern hemisphere.

Brahmas are known to lay later. Mystic Marans shouldn't have pea combs. They are a cross of a CM and BR.

Good luck on your pelvic test! I find that the web can be clueless sometimes. Especially since some people like to spread myths around like a wild fire. Definitely makes it harder when just getting into chickens.

Yes, I did hear that about Brahmas. The Mystic Marans I have is confusing to me... Would you say, based on the pic I attached, that she has a pea comb? It's definitely not at all like some of her flockmates that have single combs (ISA Brown, Lav. Orp, Speckled Sussex). Yep, not a Maran, but I bet she is an OE with Maran blood. Pretty!
