One of my hens has started laying eggs that had blood in them.

I am NOT talking about a little speck either. In the last week, I have opened three eggs like this so far from her.
The eggs have at least a 1/4 diameter of blood. One eggs had a long piece of blood - -it was so gross.

I feed my birds - - laying crumbles, table scraps, and calcium. Plus, they get to free range . . .

WHAT causes this ?

Should I worry ? ? The hen is almost a year old and this has never been a problem before.

HOW do I stop it ? ?

Thanks for any suggestions

Thanks, that was helpful. . .

I just started adding light a few hours a day - - I wonder if this is causing it. .

I know it is not bad food and I don't supplement with vitamins. . .

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you. But I was thinking, if you haven't already, you might want to post this under the "Emergencies/Diseases" forum also. I know technically it is an egg question, but you may get a faster response there. I hope it goes well for your girl.

Well, it looks like you got help!! Sorry!

thanks simpsoncj.

I will do that if I don't get any more ideas from here. . . I just try to save that forum for emergiences. I don't think the hen is ill, but I am so grossed out that I won't eat her eggs.
