My chicks are 11 weeks old and have been roosting on the top bar since I put them in the coop at 7 weeks. I just opened the nest boxes to them today. I have an Easter egg in each box (does it matter that they are colored?). Should I part the curtains for a while so they see they are open? I know I have a while until they actually start laying, but want to make sure I'm doing things right. I have 5 girls, and 2 boxes open (using the third for storage).

I don't think it really matters what color they are, I have used many different colors for fake eggs, and my chickens don't seem to care. It probably wouldn't hurt to open up the curtains a little so that they can feel a little less cautious about going in there, and then start putting the curtains together slowly until it's all together again. However, it can be stressful to change a chickens nesting space, so I guess it kind of depends on your chickens.

Color of fakies doesn't matter, but weight can be an issue.
Best to fill them with sand, or get something heavier so they don't get kicked out of the nests. Curtains, IMO, are totally unnecessary. Were the curtains covered before?
You've got 2 months before eggs happen, but good to make sure they don't start sleeping in nests.

Curtains have always been there. Thanks! I am just trying to do everything right...lol!
