Opinions and Experiences with keeping cats in coop

My house cats go out most days and they will kill any mice in the yard and they get along with my chickens. They often play together, the cat will tag a chicken and the chicken will run away and then come back and chase the cat its pretty funny, they know not to hurt the chickens. Here is my cat Simba running with the chickens

Well, someone recently dumped a kitten at our place, and since he's super loving and possesses an insane amount of cuteness, we decided to keep him. He has volunteered himself as our "coop cat" and really seems to enjoy his time with the chickens, both in the coop and out in the enclosure.

We were grilling out at a local park a few weeks ago and found a kitten. She's a cutie. I am trying to rehome her, but so far no luck. Not putting her on CL because I heard people swipe up kittens to feed to their snakes....

We have her in a dog crate at night & while I am at work or DD is at school. The chickens were freaking out when they first seen her

, but the newness has worn off. She will be spayed asap. She's too young now. My friend takes her cats to a rescue center near that will give her shots and spay all for under $50.

Depending on where you are located in Ohio, HOPE Clinic in Upper Sandusky is a good, inexpensive option for neutering/spaying plus shots. I've taken several cats there over the years.

Thanks! I live near Cincinnati though. I think the name of the place she said is OAR (Ohio Alleycat Resource).

So far, she likes the chickens. Not even afraid of the roosters, but we took the lap dog (Maltese Yorkie Poo) back there tonight and the kitten came unglued!

Hissing, scratching, trying to get away from us. Guess we'll have to get her used to him too. Poor innocent doggie.

It sounds to me like you've got a keeper. With time, I'll bet she'll get used to your dog, too. Yes, upper Sandusky is pretty far from Cincinnati, but it sounds like you've already got a good place lined up. Best wishes to you and your new coop cat!

Check my profile out I did just that and raised 2 male brother kittens in coop. My coop and 8x8 nesting shed they live in 24/7 and none can leave its all fenced in all sides and top. But I run cameras 24/7 online so anyone can watch its limited to 5 at a time but can up it upon requests.. It works check out my page info for details. ..

A small, abandoned kitten took up with my flock in late summer this year. She was young and hungry and was side by side with the chickens eating the feed with them. She would run when she saw me, but soon got used to me bringing the food and hung around. She would play tag with my younger pullets and would hand out with the chickens during the day. I'll have to catch her soon and have her spayed or she'll present me with some kittens as we have plenty of feral toms running around here.

It's neat to see how they bond with a different species, though.
