Opinions on Blue-laced Red Wyandottes

In my opinion a black laced is a golden laced that carries the blue gene.

Not to nitpick here, but if it's carrying the blue gene, then the bird would actually be blue laced, not black laced. The blue gene wouldn't be hidden.

im no expert but i know i could tell the difference between a gold laced bird and a blue laced red bird any day, the golden is just that, Gold. The blue laced red is "suppose" to be the pretty bay red although they will breed with black splash or blue lacing. I dont think there are many true blue laced reds out there myself at least from what I've seen. Only a handfull of breeders have what I'd consider nice red colored birds and hopefully I got some in the brooder right now that will be red not the gold most like to say are red.

This is a Gold Laced Wyandotte. Notice that the red/gold is very orangy/brassy/flame colored, mostly on the neck, but you can also see that it's body color is more orangy than red, hence the name "gold". (I got this photo off the Internet, so I don't know if this is a BYC member's bird or not.)

This is my black laced red. She carries the mahogany gene, which is a modifer of red/gold. Her color is the deep red bay color that is so desirable in BLR.
