Opinions on feed from my local mill?

Other than the added Bacillus species there is nothing special about those feeds. I would question the lysine and methionine levels since that tag shows no added amino acids.

All three of those tags are illegal, they do not show the appropriate nutrients required by the AAFCO. That makes me question the quality of their feeds. According to the AAFCO Regulations every complete poultry feed tag must contain the following:

Crude Protein, minimum
Lysine, minimum
Methionine, minimum
Crude Fat, minimum
Crude Fiber, maximum
Calcium, minimum and maximum
Phosphorus, minimum
Salt, minimum and maximum (if added)

Well, s$&@! Guess it’s not a local company I can support. What a bummer! 😑

Even your pets will go through a period of time when they are laying several eggs a week from about 5 months to 2 years old. Then decreasing egg output. I would suggest, for optimum health during these months and for long life, to feed the 20% protein feed. After egg production declines, they might actually do better on a lower protein feed.

"AAFCO does not regulate, approve, certify or endorse animal feed or pet food in any way, and AAFCO does not review an individual company's label or labeling. It is the states, and their designated regulatory officials, which have the legal authority to review a feed or pet food label and approve or disapprove products for distribution in their state according to the requirements of their state feed law and regulations."

I’d still like a feed that meets AAFCO requirements. The whole debacle with grain free dog foods and dilated cardiomyopathy had shown me the importance of AAFCO, I’ll sacrifice going with a local feed to avoid any potential health problems. The girls are currently eating Country Companion’s All Flock (20% protein) and doing very well! ☺️
