opinions on getting more chickens next year?

Hi Pat, you aren't that far from us, we are in Kendal, about 20 mins NE of Bowmanville. Nice to see another BYC friend close to home. I'll have to see where my booklet is, there is another hatchery somewhere near Port Hope I think, that may have some "different" breeds. Also, another BYC member Kerr, who is just outside of Bowmanville has some info I do believe on a guy who breeds Silkies near Port Hope. I'll see if she has anything yet!! Did you get your birds from Freys Hatchery??
Talk soon!
Trish
Oh yeah, I'll have to think about splitting with you on getting an order from the states...My hubby will probably kill me, LOL, but I may be able to twist his arm a bit!!

Yeah, I haven't contacted them yet, but they do at least *list* a lot of breeds, some of them sexed. Most are listed as "shipped in", though, and honestly I wonder if they may just act as agents for ordering them from US hatcheries ;P

There is also an outfit in Quebec that has some heritage breeds, but again, unsexed. And I am just really really hopeless at the French language, sigh.

Still mulling over what to do in case I can't find a Canadian source for sexed day-old chicks of interesting breeds next year, but VERY appreciative of all the suggestions and feedback,

Pat

Hi Trish,

I have no idea where our chickens originally came from, we just picked them up at the feed store. Probably not Frey's tho because ours are supposed to be ISA Browns which I don't think they produce.

My husband would probably kill me, too, if I wanted to order chicks up from the states, but, hey

(And much to my surprise he HAS pretty much agreed that we should, or at least could, get more chickens!) So, think about what you might want to do, and next year we can consider whether we want to plot something together <g>

Cheers,

Pat
