Opinions on the black birchen marans from greenfire

Thanks! I found him on craigslist in Sacramento and drove 1.5hr to get there from Tahoe but worth the ride! He had both copper and birchen maran, the copper were bred for conformation and breed standards and the birchen for dark eggs, so I went with egg color! It was great to see his breeding adults to be able to choose which chicks to get. I'm new to it all and it was really fun!

Just an FYI - MaranS always has an S on the end, even for a single bird.

Gotta love Birchen Marans. They are difficult to find. I had some but lost them all to coyotes this week. And many other chickens as well. Free ranging is a great practice until a predator decides to free range as well. And the predator will often win. We lost between 30 and 40 birds this week.
