I recently watched For The Birds on Netflix. It's a pretty solid documentary, but I feel like the rescue center were dishonest about the turkeys, and in a way I feel bad for Kathy. Anyway let me know your opinions!

I’m so excited to see someone else watched this doc! It’s one of my favorites. I agree that while some concern about her and her situation was warranted, they were dishonest with her especially about the turkeys. The documentarian did such a good job portraying each person as thoroughly human in my opinion. Wasn’t the ending remarkable? I’d recommend this to anyone.

I feel like both groups were probably in the wrong. Cathy wasn't keeping the birds in good conditions, but the sanctuary people were dishonest.
I really liked it as well! It was very heartfelt.

I read about the making of the doc. The filmmaker was a volunteer at the sanctuary who rode out to Kathy and Gary’s with Sheila on that first trip out. He was so interested he started filming. One thing I thought was that it would have made sense to have steered a couple of volunteers to Kathys to help her with the animals. That way they could have helped her with protective fencing near the stream for the ducks and assisted with keeping the chicken yard in better shape. IMO rescue sometimes just provides a quick path to transfer animals from the poor to the wealthy. I also noticed to gross overestimate of how many animals she had.

Don’t get me wrong, I have personally known a couple of dog hoarders and I am opposed to letting people mismanage and fail to care for the animals they take in, so I was as horrified about the ducks and chickens in the house. That was awful. But losing everything? Not fair.

What do you think? Was Gary the original tipster?

I just finished the documentary and I am SO glad those animals got a new home , I know she obviously loved them but being stuck in that muddy pen all day is no life. I think she can definitely take care of a smaller amount of animals ❤️ Duck math can be tricky and she got in over her head —— and yes Gary definitely was the one who called the SPCA
