In the book Raising Poultry Successfully By: Will Graves
When raising roasters (20 wks) at 6 weeks you start adding grain & gradually increase the amount each week so by week 14 you are @ 50% corn (or other grain) 50% daily feed!
He says grains are not necessary with broilers (8wk)
To finish among other things to lay on a bit of fat along with the meat, providing a more ample filled-out, and tender carcass.
