Opossum!

Just when I was closing up the coop for the night I saw something behind a barrel I moved the barrel and peeked behind it, and then I saw a big hairy backside of an opossum! I am from ontario, Canada so I have never seen an Opossum intil now, I have allways thought that they lived somewhere around California but apparently they decided to live here now. Some animal killed two of my silkies a few days ago and I think we found out who did it. We scared away the Opossum and now we don't know know what to do to keep the little guy out, we where thinking about trapping it, but what will we do with it after? Does anyone know what we can do to get rid of that opossum?

I don't know what else to say. People won't just take an opossum onto their land if it knows how to get into coops.

People get into raising chickens partly to be as independent as the pioneers. If you want to be a chicken keeper and keep your chickens safe then you sometimes must act like the pioneers acted. It's just part of the whole backyard chicken thing.

It wasn't in exactly in the coop it was in the run

Your run needs to be safer. Your opossum will return, and so will others. Fix the coop and run to be safe, and trap and shoot the visiting varmit.
Or call a pest control company and spend $$$ to do the same thing.

Apparently, you have the guts to keep picking up dead chickens. To put it bluntly, if you can't protect your chickens from predators, the predators will keep enjoying your buffet until there are no more chickens.

I see those vile creatures anywhere on my property and they get shot and buried with a big ole' smile on my face.
