Opossums have figure out how to open the doors...

Dang it, I’m sorry! I didn’t proof read very well. A hot tinsel STRAND. It’s just single wires placed at varying heights (based on the predators) and hooked to “the juice.” It will light them up like a Christmas tree. Only one visit and they’re done.
Thanks, I still needed explanation for strand lol.

Gotcha! One thing about the electric strands (I’ve never used poultry netting so I don’t know about it) is animals can hear it “popping.” People can hear it too, but my horses definitely know when it’s on as they hear that electricity. Even so, they still go nowhere around it even if it’s not popping. Once is generally enough.

i would suggest until your husband gets back to make sure the chickens you have left are securely locked in the coop at night.
during the day you could secure the door locks that they are able to get thru with zip ties, bungee cord or rope, anything that will stop them from fiddling with the run door.
do you just have the one injured chicken left or do you have more?
i know you feel like giving up but i will tell you that most all of us here have gone thru the same kind of thing.
i dont think most people are aware of all the chicken eating critters that are out there and the resourcefulness they will go to to eat your chickens. i know i dident.
i learned along the way and each lesson i learned brought me closer to the very secure coop i have today.

This may be the case with the quail I once had.
I had bought ten quail to start raising for eggs and meat. I ended up trading for about thirty more. I went through and selected my males that I wanted to keep for breeding stock and processed the rest (kept all the hens).
They began laying and I was beginning to collect eggs for incubation. Well, I went out one morning to find my gate wide open with two birds headless in the cage and the rest, GONE.
I had no idea what happened but suspected a coon, but no chickens were bothered and they were more accessible.
