Just noticed an orange poop in the chicken coop. Birds are confined to coop to minimize exposure to avian flu. Do I treat for coccidiosis just in case? With amprolium? Should/can I give it to my geese too just in case? They are confined separately but share a wall with see through windows and were free ranging together a few days ago before they were confined.
Please don't judge the dirty coop. I cleaned three days ago, they are just all unfortunately in a small space temporarily. Usually they've got 4 acres to shit all over.
Thanks!

Those look like cecal droppings to me. They happen about every 8 - 10 droppings and tend to be creamier and stinkier than regular droppings. Color and consistency can vary depending on diet.

That is super helpful! Great resource! In my worry I read about giving amprolium preventatively every once in awhile. Do you think that's a good idea given that they are confined to a much smaller space than usual?

I don't treat for coccidiosis unless I am seeing symptoms. Older birds usually have some resistance and won't get sick unless exposed to a new strain. Chicks are more at risk. I would just try to keep things dry, and keep droppings from building up, keep feeders and waterers clean.

No, it doesn't work this way...giving randomly as a preventative.
