Thought I'd update this thread. Finn has been with us for 10 1/2 years now, will be 11 yrs come November, is almost completely blind; his eyes look like glass marbles. Even then, he's left a gift squirrel for us on the mat and sent a few mice to their eternal reward, amazing. You can't convince me that he is entirely blind to shadows and light. If you recall, the vet said he was about a year and a half old when he showed up and adopted us.
He still goes on his routes in the morning, hunts by sound and maybe some movement he can detect. He would not be happy as a forced indoor cat. He is my husband's nurse. My husband has far advanced degenerative disc disease and is in excruciating pain much of the time. When it's especially bad, Finn will not leave his side. He's on his chest, his lap or hanging over his shoulder, couldn't have a better nurse. We are going to be devastated when he's gone. Here he is in his second favorite spot (his first in somewhere on my husband), his chair on the wraparound porch. Someone told me that orange tabbies are the best and they're right, sweetest and most well-behaved cat I can imagine and unlike my husband, I grew up with cats. None were like Finn.
