Orange Tabby...He Stays and His Name is Finn (Update with Videos Dec 31)

Pics
She is such a lovely hen, have enjoyed having her all these years, watching her raise babies. When she was little, she was so fluffy, she looked like a little girl wearing her big sister's clothes. Will never forget that picture I have of her.
Your description and photo made my eyes water. It amazes me how unique and personable each one is. I can't do the emoticons with my phone...but consider yourself and Nugget hugged by me.

@speckledhen , how is your girl Nugget doing?
She is pretty much the same, though we did allow her to go back to Xander and Dusty today. I tested the waters by letting those two out with her. They were all picking at grass together in the back forty and were not harassing her much today. Her crop is still not working properly and her color is bad on and off, but we will massage it, make sure she is drinking water and just let her be a chicken. We were worming three groups today with Valbazen, including Atlas's group, and I found a hen with a bloated abdomen in that group, my 4 year old splash Rock, Gloria Jean. I had seen her go on the nest a few times but was sure I hadn't seen an egg from her. Now, I know why. Darn it.

Quote: Thank you. She will forever be the little girl chicken in that picture for me.

Nice that Nugget could get out with the others and they didn't pester her.

Gloria Jean, pretty name. Hope she'll be ok.

Chicken drama...it's always something isn't it?

Gloria Jean is named for my friend Gloria Jean on BYC whose screen name is crazyhen. She lives in NC about an hour or so from me. I don't have many with double names, but lately I've been calling Atlas's black hen, Wendy, "Wendy Sue" for some unknown reason. She is a goofy hen, maybe that's it, will bite your leg to get you to pick her up.

Yes, drama, drama. Sigh. We wormed Isaac's group, Atlas's group and the old hens' group today with Valbazen. We'd already wormed the others with Safeguard not long ago. Next time, everyone gets Valbazen. Ladyhawk and I shared the cost and split the bottle since one 500 ml bottle will worm 1000 LF birds one time. Thankfully, neither of us come close to that number, separately or together!

Wynette is still broody. She is being a bad girl. I don't trust her with eggs right now, but frankly, I just don't want to deal with it. My friend, Karen, (lockedhearts) is coming on Sunday to pick up the barred trio so the old hens will only have to deal with Lizzie, Jet and Rocky. They'll probably be breathing a sigh of relief Sunday night!

You talking about Wendy Sue going for the legs...all 3 of our RSL girls do that, none of the other birds, just the RSL's and only 1 of them wants to be picked up, the other 2 just want treats. One of them (Freddy) has gotten real sneaky about tip toeing up from behind. She's like a stealth chicken! I've gotten pretty good about using those eyes in the back of my head.

Nugget is back with her pals, up on the roost shelf in the back corner behind Dusty. Deacon is up on his wide roost bar next to Sammie Jo, his first hen who loves him best. He let me pet him, rub his earlobes and his wattles, just looked up at me with the warmest expression in his eyes. He's a sweet boy, even if he does cause me some inconvenience from time to time. In many ways, he reminds me so much of my beloved Zane.

I pulled Wynette off the nest one last time today and put her on the roost, though I bet she snuck back to the nest as soon as I left the coop.

As I was coming back from the back fence line after dumping a bucket of poopy shavings, I saw Finn fixated on a clump of grass and leaves. He obviously heard something in there and was patiently waiting for it to poke its nose out. I stood and watched with him for five minutes or so and came back to the house before the mosquitoes found me.

This made me do a double-take--my oldest niece has a marmalade cat named Roux! Tell me, did you attend LSU (Geaux Tigers!) and does Roux have extra toes, too?
No, I did not go to LSU but I always pull for them except when they are playing Bama.

When Roux came home with me one day after my morning walk (he was a kitten), everyone kept giving me advice on what to name him but nothing felt right. I knew he was very special since he basically demanded that I pick him up and bring him home. He came to us the day before Halloween so my neighbor suggested that we name him Jack for Jack-O-Lantern. That was close but no cigar. On Halloween evening, I was making gumbo and as I was making the roux I noticed that it was the same color as our new little man cat (he is actually darker than he looks in that pic) and the name just clicked. His full name is Roux Roux The Magnificent. LOL!

It is good to hear that sweet Nugget is getting to go about a more normal routine now. What are you going to do about Gloria Jean?

Probably nothing. I've been through this so many times, enough to know there is no hope. I can do penicillin just because I have it here, just in case there is a minute chance for her. I'm not sure how long she's been like this because she's not one to like to be picked up at all. And I can't reliably tell her eggs from some of the other Rocks' so I don't know how long she has been halted in her laying.
