has anyone order from them? anything you experieced from ordering from them, good or bad, please tell. also, i want my babies to come at the end of may. when should i order? any suggestions would be great.

I ordered from them, and they actually get their stock from Meyer, so you can look at their reviews, too.

The birds were of decent quality, actually pretty good-looking for hatchery stock. I had a 10% incorrect sexing ratio, which is normal, and had only a couple of DOAs, which is also normal.

It was overall a perfectly decent experience.

I am happy that they will work hard to ensure the chicks don't get cold on the way. Not all hatcheries will.

I'm not sure if you can request a specific ship date, but I'd try...I know they'll often sell-out, so call and ask. I ordered online.

I ordered from MPC in mid July for a mid August delivery. I had a great experence. My five girls came happy and heathly. I have pictures posted on my BYC page if you want to see them. I ordered from them because of their small order ability, and I wanted to start with a variety of birds the same age.

If I remember correctly, when you look to order they will have possible dates of availabilty. You can put in your top choices for dates and request blackout dates if a certain week does not work for you. I found their website fairly easy to use and their customer service was great. There is a fee for changing your order (so be prepared to pay for goofy whims

), but they were nice about it. I would do business with them again.

What kind of chicks are you looking at getting?

in my city, we're only supposed to have 4, but i'm getting 6, icase one doesn't make. we are getting australorp, deleware, leghorn, rhode island red, speckled sussex, and silver laced wyandotte. and they all have a few dates that i like in may. so that's good. how long in advance did you place your order before you got them? i don't know if i should place it now or wait a month or two. i want them by the end of may at the latest. how many chicks did you get and how many of them were roos? that's the other reason for getting 6. we can not have roos in the city. if all 6 survive or 1 or 2 are roos, i have a nice farm that will take them for me. they are the only company that i can find that will ship just a few.

I ordered my three the end of July w/ an august delivery date. I got exactly what i ordered and they arrived safely. JMPE is right- they do have hatching dates for the different breeds listed so look at that, it will help you decide on what and when to order.

I got my flock from MPC. I ordered 5 RIRs hens and 1 RIR rooster, two Easter Eggers, and two wyandottes and only lost one. The website is very easy to use and they have a breed selector that is very helpful for beginners. You also basically choose when you get your order. I would use them again for sure.

I got 8 girls from them last April, 2 RIRs, 2BSL, 2 EEs, 2 Australorps, all healthy and sexed properly. Never any problems. I have ordered 6 more to be delivered in April and will hopefully have another good experience. You can go to their website and see when the breeds you want are available and on checkout they give you the shipping dates available for the chicks you selected. You can then pick one of the dates or check "earliest available". Some breeds sell out quicker than others so for best choice, I would get my order in as early as possible.

Good luck!

thank you for the info. i'll have to order in the next week or two before i change my mind again. it keeps changing on what breeds i want. it's starting to drive me a little crazy. thanks:barnie

I ordered from them basically for the same reasons you mentioned. Can't have any roosters and wanted 5 all different breeds. My only comment about ordering more than you expect to keep.....you will get very attached very fast. I'd have had a really hard time deciding which had to go especially after they are old enough to distinguish between roos and pullets. I have loved all the breeds I selected which you can see in my signature line. Also it was my very first experience with chickens ever! My page has pics of the girls.

Finally I LOVED dealing with MPC and will order from them again if I have a chance to get more anytime!

Also as a side note....if you put a space before you add the smiley link, it will show up as the intended smiley. I kept doing that at first and all my posts just showed the "name" of the smiley. lol

Have fun and
