Okay, so this is a question for everyone that has ordered from metzar farms. Do you have to drive to the postal office to get them? Or are they going to get shipped to my house. I've never ordered off of this site so sorry if I sound dumb. Thanks for any responses.

You will need to pick them up from your P.O. My P.O. folks are awesome and always call early in the morning to let me know that birds have arrived, but not all are like that. I’ve heard horror stories of babies languishing in a back office. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the tracking info and call or stop by if you suspect they have them and haven’t contacted you.

The Post Office is supposed to call you as soon as they arrive. When my family ordered ducklings they called right before opening to let us know. When I ordered two of my ducklings just recently I was sitting at the phone waiting and wound up calling them instead because I couldn't wait any longer lol

I would suggest getting there the moment the office opens and opening the box on the counter to checking for any losses in front of your mail staff. Best of luck and safe travels to your little ones :jumpy

Any live animal needs to be picked up -- not just from Metzer. I called our postmaster as soon as I placed the order and explained I was expecting live animals. They were to be shipped on x date and arrive on y date. I asked them to call me as soon as they received them. They asked that I call with tracking as soon as they were shipped so they could monitor the package.

I monitored the package and so did my local post office. My heart stopped when I checked the tracking information on Wednesday and they were labeled "Dead on Arrival"... But I had bothered the postmaster enough that he gave me his direct line. I called and he said it was a lag between scanning from being unloaded and him scanning the package as arrived. He had them, so I drove the 30 minutes and knocked at the side door an hour before they officially opened... Just like they said.

Rural post offices are accustomed to shipping birds. If you live in a city, you may want to explain that you need to be called asap or the birds could die... But politely -- the last thing you want to do is insult them.

I called right when I woke up to remind them that I was expecting them and asked them to call me when they arrived. They did! They were chirping so loud when I got there and the people were so nice!!! I was so happy cuz it was my first set of ducks!!! Shaking a bit in excitement!!! Is this your first set? Good luck!!!

Mine arrived early in the morning to be picked up at the post office.
The first time they were sent to a different post office than where I was told they would be but it was only a few miles down the road, they did call.
The 2nd time they were sent to the correct post office but came in with a lot of other peoples ducks and chickens. They had not called...I just showed up as soon as the post office opened and they were already there.
Either way they were healthy and happy both times.
Best of luck with your new babies!

My post office always called before they opened (around 5-5:30am). I live in farming country, so chances are the carriers are experienced with chicks, so they really do call ASAP.
