Ordered from Ideal...less than ideal...:( (UPDATED)

If you don't order the extra chicks to ship with your replacements, will Ideal just refund your money for the few chicks that died? That's what McMurray does, refunds the few dollars for each chick that dies in shipment or within 48 hours or so after receipt.

Back in November we recieved our order for 12 chicks from Ideal they included 6 PP leghorns one of which turned out to be a pullet which is good because one of the Barred Rock we ordered was a Cockerel.........anyway every one of them thrived and are doing well today, in fact they started laying this week. We had a very good experience with Ideal. I wished you had the same.

Yes, they say we have to spend another $25 just to get a few replacements, despite their 100% live delivery guarantee. I can't get that many more chickens. I only want my little roo and my two pullets! I really wanted that roo.

I think what ideal means with the 25 dollar thing is the same thing they told me..
It means that you didnt lose enough to make it worth it to reship, but if you order some more they can through them in for free.
(I had a couple more die, bringing my total to 6, and they reshipped.)
Good Luck!!
Jason
Oh yeah, and I would ask the hatchery to reship too, if you want the chicks you ordered, CUSTOMER FIRST!!

My experience with ideal has been great!

Have you considered ordering what you want from that New England supplier -- pet chicken something-- referenced on the BYC list of online hatcheries? They DO ship small quantities...you might still get some PP but you'll have the satisfaction of getting what you want without sending $25 to a company you're unhappy with right now....

Where are you? I'm in Palm Beach County, FL, and have 7 SLW cockerels growing up to be dinner guests. If you're not close enough to buy one of these, perhaps you could find one from a BYCer or other chicken keeper in your area.

I am sorry about the confussion. I do not know who you spoke with but they are not correct. If you know who you spoke with please let me know and I will speak with them. Give us a call and we will get your replacements shipped to you. We will have to include males for warmth but like other posters said just give them away.

Teri,

Teri, it's great to have such a responsive representative of your hatchery here on this board

The SLW cockerels I now have "ripening" in the meat pen were packing peanuts from another local keeper's Ideal order. He didn't want them, just wanted the lovely NH Reds he'd ordered, so he posted these chicks on FreeCycle. I was very glad to receive them, they're wonderfully healthy guys, and look forward to inviting them to the dinner table.

Since Mister lost his job I couldn't afford to purchase meat chicks, so I'm grateful to take anyone's unwanted roos.

Wow, thanks Teri. I've emailed you directly at Ideal. As for getting the little SLWs cockerels from Florida, I wish I could, but there's just no way for me to get over there. I'm in west-central Mississippi. I appreciate the offer, however. I can't believe they threw in SLWs as packing peanuts. haha. My neighbor, who we're splitting our order with, teases me and calls the SLWs "brand name chickens." They're fancy as far as he's concerned.

He did say he'd take our little RR cockerels, though. They're so darned cute, and feisty, too. They are the hardiest and most active of all our chicks! They were the first to figure out the waterer and start eating the crumbles. I guess there is something to be said for those little RRs.
