I'm new to chickens and BYC. We live in St. Joe Township Michignan (Benton Harbor address). We have 16 acres. I'm trying to research the ordinance on chickens in our township, but can't find an answer. I don't really want to call the township yet and tip them off to our chickens. I've read about the Right to Farm act and it sounds like as long as I sell some eggs, then I can have chicken despite and ordinance. Does anyone know about my township's ordinances on chickens? Also, I am trying to find some groups in this area that I can join to meet other people raising chickens. I want to get some advice from people. My husband and I have no clue what we're doing.

Peace,

from New Mexico!

This is the place to be for meeting folks in your area as well as other information about chickens. I sure hope you are allowed to keep poultry in your area. They are so much fun to raise. One of the finest hobbies I have ever gotten involved in.

So glad you could join and enjoy BYC!

yours is a question that comes up often on the Michigan thread - re: right to farm laws. I hope you prevail . You certainly have a goodly amount of acreage, and you are not involved with HOA's
