Have a sick chicken since returning home from fair, was wanting to put oregano oil in there water. Any have any recommendations on how much oil per gallon. Thanks

I'm interested in this too. I have Natural Factors organic oil of oregano. It's a minimum of 80% carvacrol and is in an extra virgin olive oil solution. 4 drops provides 120mg of EVOO and 30mg of oregano oil. The Ropadiar liquid is 10%. Does that mean my oil is twice as potent since it is 20% oregano? (30mg/150mg)

I'm trying to figure out how to treat the birds with this. I may just return this and order something from Ropa, but I'll give BYC a try first. I wanted to put it in their water, but I'm pretty sure neither oil with mix well. Maybe just give each bird a few drops directly by mouth? The human recommended dose is 4 drops.

Muchos gracias in advance.

I use doterra oils a lot, but I'm not sure how long a home made oil would last. It would probably depend on the conditions they were made in, whether it was sterile equipment. I do know that the oils should be stored in glass, dark containers.
That said, I know I'm late responding to this, but I have to warn whoever was wondering and who may be reading this now...oregano oil is a HOT oil, and should NEVER be given straight into the mouth of any animal or human. Don't even put it on any skin straight, or neat, as they call it. It must be diluted with a carrier oil.

I agree with you. Also you should put 1 drop per 1 gallon of water and shake it up. I also use doTERRA oils. You can also add it to a spray bottle and spray it in the coop and run as well as their food, just make sure it is diluted enough 1 drop to 1 gallon of water.

Do NOT give oregano oil directly in the mouth. It must be diluted 1 drop to 1 gallon of water. You can shake it up to help it disperse and if you have a smaller water container, just give it a shake every so often, maybe once a day. The olive oil is a carrier oil so it will help dilute the oregano, but I'm unsure of the exact ratio of olive oil to oregano oil.
