Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

ZooMummzy -

I just wanted to post that Louis (formerly Lulu formerly Siobhan) is still the most cuddly chicken of my flock, despite being a roo... and he has decided that my big pink foam garden clogs are hens! They're about his size.

He did his little sexy dance today, then bit the toe and tried to jump on my shoe! I was laughing so hard that I almost tripped on him!

I guess he doesn't get much "attention" since Jacques is alpha roo and hitting on all the girls.

It was definitely my laugh for the day!

Still no more hatching babies

Don't know why.

I just got the one, who was early.

I was hoping to get atleast one more, so Number1 wouldn't be lonely.

Number1 has been crying so much, I wasn't for sure what I should do. Then I remembered about this keyring I had. It is a tiny stuffed rooster. Number1 is now cuddled up next to this. It is cute. (but sad at the same time). He doesn't seem to cry as much. His feet look better, also.

I don't know either. Did you candle the remaining ones yet? Terri up in WA had to crack one out of the shell last night. It was Day 23, the chick couldn't break through the egg. Once they took the shell off it pushed its way out and is doing great. They lost 1 and the other didn't finish. They had broody issues. Broody's aren't always reliable either so don't feel bad.

Well, we ended up with 6 little Serama babies. Five look really good, we had to help the last one out, it doesn't look as good. Hopefully, it will be OK

.Thanks for the eggs, Laura!

Congrats! and I hope the little one makes it. Ones I've had to help sometimes take up to 24 hours to get their energy. Good thoughts coming your way

I did candle eggs tonight. No movement in any eggs and some started looking watery. So I decided to start cracking the eggs.
hit.gif
All were dead.
sad.png
They all had started. Only 2 had come close. (they had almost developed into a chick)
sad.png
They were very small, but had feathers and looked somewhat like a chick. One of these had looked like it was maybe a day or two from hatching, but the other still had a large yolk(ish) attachement. The other 5 were all at different stages of developments. I did some research on egg hatching, and I think I came up with that maybe my incubator temp maybe too high. The thermometer reads 99.5, but maybe it reads low. I've read that too high temps may result in early hatches or incomplete hatches. (Which is exactly what I had)

It still sucks

Aww Paula, I'm sorry

If you want more eggs to try again (after you calibrate your incubator), let me know. I will send them to you. I really am sorry this hatch did not go well for you
hit.gif
I wish I had small enough babies to give you for your lone chick.
