There are lot of people who can't think 3-4 weeks ahead. They simply can't manage it. However, I would give her the benefit of the doubt. Her mother died and she couldn't plan ahead for that. Maybe the place she is in belonged to her mother, or maybe the mother was helping her with the rent. Nobody willingly moves from a house to an apartment, do they?
You've already decided what to do, but I would have let her have the Silkie if she paid her share of the shipping. Next time, perhaps get the $ up front.
AyeUpChuck, if any of those pears are Seckels, they make the most delicious dried pears in the entire world. No pear butter for me. I've got 7 pear trees. Hoping to be stuffing myself with pear salad with candied pecans sometime here soon. My Seckels should have been ripe a couple of weeks ago, but everything seems to be running a month late, here. I just picked peaches yesterday and they should have been ripe in July.
