Oh! Those would be from my cochins! They will be super sweet birds. They were hatched here from my bantam pen, and while a few were all cochin, the Sultan ended up being the surprise Dad to a couple because I noticed extra toes. If yours don't have extra toes, and the feet are more yellow, then they are cochin. The third, probably noticeable larger one, is descended from the rescued rooster. Enjoy them!
They are super sweet. I brought them in tonight, since they are still a little short on the feathers. I named them Romeo and Juliet (one really looks rooish, and they have yellow feet and no extra toes) I also brought the big black girl in to help keep them warm, and her name is Black Beauty. Looking forward to watching them grow up
. They were also one of my best impulse buys
Thanks!!!
Aww, that just makes my day.
You got the ones that are pure cochin then. The only pure breed ANYTHING that I've ever hatched on my lil' farm, and it was a rough hatch at that. They were in a nest of NINETEEN eggs, both large and bantam that one big fluffy Buff Orpington sat on through hundred degree temps. I moved her nest four times to keep her alive (it was close!) and several times I caught her squatting OVER the top of the nest, because she was just too hot to actually sit on them. Out of the nineteen, I got fifteen that hatched over the course of a few days and a few of them needed help. It was really easy for them to pip, zip and then dry out dangerously in the heat, so I'd check every few hours, and once I saw a zip, they came in the house and finished hatching. It was the most stressful, most rewarding hatch we've ever had around here! (And another reason to get an incubator
I'd love to see updated pics when they are older!
